New and Notable Bands #4

Here are some super cool new bands you all should give a spin!

The Wizards

These guys are like mix of old Angel Witch and Dio. They bring the riffs and super catchy songs. They put out an album last year titled “Full Moon in Scorpio” and it’s a banger, I highly recommend checking these boys out.

Unearthly Trance

Hailing from New York, New York, Unearthly trance bring the riffs! And I guess they’re not really new considering they’ve been around for almost 20 years but they’re new to me. These guys released an album back in 2017 called “Stalking The Ghost” and it rips, it almost has a Gojira feel to them. I highly recommend checking these dudes out and checking out their newest album down below.

Lord Crow

Now check this out, I just discovered these guys recently and they are like High on Fire’s step brother, they bring the Thundering riffs and the drums strike like lightning! I really recommend this band that likes High on Fire, Black Cobra or Black Tusk. And their EP “God’s Amongst Men” is absolutely fantastic. Check it out down below.

Green Druid – Ashen Blood (Album Review)

Welcome back…it’s that time again! This band was also on my most anticipated albums of 2018 so I’m excited. To begin Green Druid hail from Denver, Colorado, and they’re releasing Ashen Blood via Earache Records.

With their mythical lyrical themes and down tuned guitars they bring a thick layer of sound throughout the album, the guitar tone sounds Great and the drums sound big and natural. Now over time the songs seem to get a little repetitive but right when you get bored they kick into a another sick riff that constantly leaves you on the edge of your seat. Green Druid is kinda in the same vein as high on fire, Conan, etc. just so you guys can get an idea of what these guys have to offer.

I think the only downside to the album is the song lengths but as people know what this genre is about, they know that most stoner/sludge metal songs are pretty long. This album definitely offers a lot, has lots of heavy riffs, haunting vocals, pounding drums, ups and downs and little surprises along the way. So I suggest you guys go check out this new beast from Green Druid! Go pick up some merch and go tell Earache Records how good this album is.

I’m giving this album a 8/10 here on Mammoth Tongue Reviews.

Deathbell – With the Beyond (Album Review)

Yesssss bring on doom! Hailing from France “Deathbell” is a female fronted fuzz filled stoner metal band. With their new album “With the Beyond.” And my god this album has it all, heavy riffs, monolithic drums, cathedral organs and vocals that’ll put you into a meditative state. So let us begin.

Right from the beginning of this album it is just pure heaviness but it never leaves you getting bored, it keeps you wanting more throughout the whole record. It’s a perfect blend of heaviness but very catchy. Like some sort of mermaid dragging you in with her beautiful voice then killing you brutally.

This album is pretty straight forward, that’s what I love about this genre, it’s very simple and pure. They remind me a lot of Windhand and those sort of stoner metal bands. But they know when to slow things down and get evil but they know when to pick things up and get the party going and I absolutely love that. So make sure you go check these guys out, and go buy their merch.

I’m giving this album a 7.5/10 here on Mammoth Tongue Reviews.

Windhand/Satan’s Satyrs – Split (Album Review)

I am very excited to be reviewing this beast, I have a long history with both of these bands, and I think one of the best releases of 2018 so far…so let’s jump right in. So to first point out this is the legendary doom outfit “Windhand” teaming up with the biker rock trio “Satan’s Satyrs” and they’re releasing this via Relapse Records. So the first half is Windhand throwing down some heavy tracks with “Old Evil” and “Three Sisters” and to me Old Evil didn’t really do anything for me but Three Sisters is definitely one of Windhands most evil and doom filled songs, it even features a organ! How much more evil can you get. Especially with the fuzz filled and monstrous drums on this track.

Then on the other half it’s Satan’s Satyrs taking a swing at the Split. They first throw “Alucard Ad 2018” at you which is a groovy/70s vibe song, then they continue on the streak of blood pumping tunes with the track “Succubus”, which to me isn’t anything special but hey I think both of these bands did a killer job making a solid Split together. I think personally the winner on this album is Windhand, the singer brings such a atmospheric and creepy voice it gives me goosebumps. Now don’t get me wrong I love Satan’s Satyrs just as much but I’m gonna have to give it to Windhand on this one.

You can go buy this album down below and support both of these great bands!

I’m giving this Split a 8/10 here on Mammoth Tongue Reviews.

Most anticipated albums of 2018

My most anticipated albums of 2018

So we’re coming to a close on 2017 and it’s been really good for the stoner/doom community, but let’s look for the future of 2018 and see what’s coming.

Killer Boogie – Acid Cream

These guys are coming in from “Heavy Psych Sounds Records” and I haven’t heard much of these guys but what I have heard is really killer rock ‘n roll! Get ready to boogie!

Windhand/Satan’s Satyrs – S/T

Now anyone that is a doom fan knows both these bands very well. It’s very cool to see such different bands on the heavy spectrum doing a split together, and since Windhand hasn’t put out anything since 2015 and Satan’s Satyrs hasn’t put out anything since 2015 as well it should be pretty interesting to see what these cats are up to.

Green Druid – Ashen Blood

These guys are coming from the “Earache Records” camp and their hailing from Denver Colorado, you can check out their singles over on Spotify. If you love classic ancient doom then Green Druid is for you! That rhymed unintentionally.

Baroness

“Baroness” is expecting to release an album sometime in 2018. Any guesses on what the color is gonna be? I want them to release a double album using the colors “black and white”.

High on Fire

High on fire just celebrated their 20th anniversary of being a band and they’re planning on releasing a record in 2018. PLUS Matt Pike’s other band “Sleep” is scheduled to release a new record. Matt is gonna have a busy year making heavy monolithic riffs.

High Reeper – S/T

These guys are also from the “Heavy Psych Sounds” gang and they got big plans to release their S/T album in 2018. If you love good ole stoner rock then “High Reeper” is for you.

Fingers crossed 2018 is as good as 2017 with the releases of stoner/doom albums.
